It’s the first Friday of December and that means that it’s FINALLY Christmas movie recommendation time! I can’t hold out on this one so I’m actually going to recommend my favourite (or at least one of my top three favourites) movie for you guys today. There’s a couple reasons for this. Firstly, it’s awesome. Secondly, some of you may have heard about a movie coming out today called Krampus. Well, remember how annoyed I was that Hunger Games ripped off the incredible Battle Royale? It’s the same thing here. The storyline is classic European folklore but I don’t want to hear everyone going on and on about how unique and interesting it is when the movie was already made in 2010 (Rare Exports) – and it’s amazing. Ugh. America, ripping off all the great foreign films. Anyways, I digress, I suppose it’s about time to get to the review.
I have been on such a good movie streak. I honestly can’t believe it. It’s been about six or seven great movies in a row. Not even just good movies, but great ones. If anyone out there is as much of a horror junkie as I am, you’ll recognize how rare this is. It’s like a special gift from the movie gods because of all the trash I’ve sifted through. That must be it. I’ve paid my dues and I’m finally collecting. Whatever it is, you guys are in for some really great recommendations. It started with Goodnight Mommy Last week and it continues with The Final Girls this week. These movies couldn’t be more different from each other but they are both fantastic films.
Hello and happy Friday, all! This week has been crazy for me. I’m terribly sorry for not keeping up with all the posts that have been going up from all my fellow bloggers out there. I feel like the Queen of Slime, the Queen of Filth, the Queen of Putrescence. Boo. Boo. Rubbish. Filth. Slime. Muck. Boo. Boo. Boo.*
*Beware, this post is funny and full of quotes (even though Game of Thrones doesn’t have anything to do with The Princess Bride).
Friday again! Where does the time go? I hope you all had a fabulous week and I’ve got a cussing awesome movie for you to enjoy tonight and kick off your weekend. I know I did a poll and everyone wanted more horror movies but I had a couple comments during last week’s Friday Night Movie Recommendation for Proxy from people who weren’t the scary movie type so I decided to pick a movie this week that everyone should like. Add to that, the main characters are foxes and you have a recipe for success.
I know I’ve been primarily recommending horror movies on Friday nights, and I’m completely willing to continue doing so, but I thought I’d let you guys weigh in. So, today please submit your vote for what genre of movie you feel like watching tomorrow and that’s what I’ll recommend.
I wanted to make this my Friday Night Movie Recommendation but I have something else lined up and I just couldn’t wait until next week so you now have two movie recommendations for this week. Lucky you! And they are both top notch.
Alien bear. Flux capacitor. Fly blood DNA. ’90s references… so many ’90s references. What’s not to love? This is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. I loved it so so so much. Detention is a mashup of horror, comedy, sic-fi, thriller, action and romance… and it works. It’s gotten pretty negative reviews and it isn’t for everyone but you (yeah, you!) should give it a try tonight. Another reason it’s so great is because it stars Josh Hutcherson, and who doesn’t love Josh Hutcherson? Not me, that’s for damn sure.
If you’re like me, nothing fills you with quite the same amount of dread as the words, “Let’s find something on Netflix.” Except maybe asking your significant other, “What do you want for dinner?” It’s an endless search for something you haven’t seen and yet isn’t absolutely horrible. Why is it so hard to find something that matches those two criteria? The struggle is real. That’s where I come in. I’ve waded through all the drivel (some of the things I’ve watched are pure garbage. Who makes these movies?) and come through with some pretty watchable movies. Now keep in mind, my expectations for these movies were very low going into them and none of them are masterpieces but they are definitely worth the watch. These are some of the hidden gems in a sea of bad acting, worse directing, unintelligible writing and endless amounts of shaky POV footage.
A little disclaimer: I love horror movies. Read more
Ok, I know. You’re asking yourself if I know what the heck I’m talking about. I mean, the Odd Couple 2? Really? Yes, really! This movie just so happens to be one of my all time favourite comedies. That being said, my taste in humour differs a lot from other people’s tastes. I’m not a huge fan of The Simpsons, Family Guy or South Park. I don’t love Anchorman (I like it but I don’t love it) or Half Baked or Zoolander. I’m all about the humour of real situations, real people, and relatable scenarios. Bad days, worse hair, awkward encounters, and bromances are a perfect combination to get me in stitches.
Welcome to the first of many Friday night movie recommendations! I saved the best for first. Do you love aliens, fireworks and British slang? If the answer is no, then you should stop following my blog stat. We can’t be friends. Attack the Block is an action packed, sci-fi, British film starring John Boyega as Moses and directed by Joe Cornish
The movie begins as we witness a mugging and then slowly, over the course of the movie, you somehow fall in love with the muggers. Cornish expertly expresses his discontent with the cycle of lower class, urban culture while maintaining the film’s comedic integrity. We, as the audience, don’t feel like we’re being forced into feeling guilty for these underprivileged children and, while Cornish is saying that their background has something to do with their behaviour, he isn’t making excuses for them.
