Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you’re in the mood for an incredible movie tonight because I have one heck of a recommendation for you. Now that Halloween month is over (woe is me) we can get back to other genres of movies other than horror. Just kidding! You guessed it, I have another horror recommendation for you guys this week. This one is more of a dramatic horror and a thriller so I wouldn’t classify it as a Halloween horror film. Regardless of it’s classification though, this movie is incredible. I realize that that is a strong word. This movie deserves it.
It’s Friday! Better yet, it’s the last day of work before I’m on vacation for two weeks! I’m on a plane tomorrow and off to visit my mom in beautiful British Columbia, where I will be doing lots of hiking, cooking (look out for some delicious recipes coming your way!) and other generally awesome things. I will be keeping you all posted so keep an eye out. As such, I’ve decided to recommend a movie that has made my husband all the more hesitant to go camping or hiking or into nature at all really. Backcountry was originally recommended to me by Eric over at The IPC who shares my love for horror movies. This recommendation did not disappoint.
I remember The Devil’s Advocate as being a one of a kind, powerhouse of a movie when I first watched it when I was young and impressionable. In hindsight, it probably isn’t the greatest movie ever made, and the idea certainly isn’t new, but it’s still pretty darn good.
For tonight’s recommendation I have a movie that stars my all-time favourite movie star crush: the incredibly handsome and ever charming, Kevin Costner. Now that you all know about my undying love for Kevin, I have to admit that I might be a bit biased when it comes to his movies. There are a lot of movies he did that received pretty terrible critical reviews and I still LOVED them. Namely, Waterworld, which has a whopping 42% on Rotten Tomatoes and The Postman which has an incredibly underwhelming 9%. I really liked these movies. Anyone else out there with me on this? I should have added them to my Guilty Pleasures list that I did with David over at That Moment In but I really don’t feel all that guilty about it. I digress. Mr. Brook didn’t receive the best reviews but it’s still a good movie and certainly worth a watch tonight. Let me tell you why.
I originally heard about this from Zoë over at Zobo With a Shotgun who listed it as her favourite horror movie of 2014. I was obviously intrigued but I didn’t get around to watching it for quite a while and then I kind of forgot about it. Then one day as I was perusing Netflix I saw it and said to myself, “Hey! That’s that movie that’s supposed to be great!” So I turned it on and… this is one of the most shocking movies I have ever seen. I loved it and I think you will too.
What can I say about this movie that hasn’t already been said? It’s wonderful, it has great character arcs, it has one of the best dance scenes I’ve ever seen, the visual effects are out-of-this-world, the score is perfectly in sync with the film and the AI aspect is incredibly well developed. Needless to say, I liked it. I liked it a lot.
Tentacles, sharp teeth, razor sharp claws, enhanced senses, and an uncanny ability to stick to the shadows 90% of the time. These are some of the defining traits of what makes a creature in a creature feature. These are the movies that make you jump into bed because there might be something lurking underneath it. The movies that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up when going into your basement and make you run back up the stairs two steps at a time. The movies that make you afraid of the dark because there just might be something there. Get your comfy clothes on, pop some popcorn and get ready to watch some movies that feature some pretty epic monsters.
It’s Friday! Yahoo! I usually work weekends, and I actually have this weekend off so that makes my Friday a bazillion times better. In honour of this Friday being awesome for me, I thought I would make it awesome for you by recommending an amazing movie that I happened to come across. I know that I might be late to the party on this one because I do remember seeing someone post about it at some point but I had no idea what it was about. I would have never thought to get it if it weren’t for Maika Monroe, who I looked into after seeing It Follows.
Welcome back, lovelies. I hope you had a fabulous week and that you have an even better weekend. To get your weekend started off on the right foot I have a great movie for you to watch tonight. It’s a movie about obsession, it’s an unconventional love story and it’s very uncomfortable and unnerving. Sounds great, right?
